Well, since the summer, Dad retired. He retired early. He didn't want anything done, but we got a cake and a "Build A Bear" bear for him. I couldn't resist. I think he liked everything. The bottom pic is from Halloween. I opted out of taking my camera with me this year. I never got many good shots anyway. Not much of a post this time around.....I'll do better next time.

Brandon's Graduation

How emotional! Brandon's graduation went very well. He got an award...the I.O.D.E. award, presented to a special education student in a contained class who has shown the most improvement in social and academic areas. Presented to Brandon by his former teacher Mrs. Pelow. She wrote a fantastic speech that had everyone sniffling and eyes watering. After the speech, Brandon came out on stage and everyone in that auditorium stood and clapped. My heart literally melted. I am so proud of him! At the same time though, I'm am sad that my "little boy" is becoming a man. I know Brandon won't do what "regular" boys do as he turns into a man....which is sad as well....but he is such a happy person, that he reminds me to appreciate what I have and not to dwell on what I don't. He's a very special person! He touches the hearts of everyone in a very special way.

Ok, so, my phone camera really really sucks.....I would have loved to have remembered my REAL camera. Next time I will bring my REAL camera and get some good shots.
So this is my brother, his partner and the rest of us. For my brother's birthday we gave him a computer (only 2 years old) a printer, scanner and all the other stuff. I was royally pissed to find that I forgot the printer cable. So, he can use the computer and not much else at the present time. Oh well, we'll get it to him. Happy Birthday anyway Rick!!! Bud and Jim were a couple of drinking buddy bikers who worked as

One day the airport was fogged in and they were stuck in the hangar

Peeing in the Bushes

A little old lad y is walking down the street, dragging two plastic garbage bags, one in each hand. There's a hole in one of the bags, and once in a while a $20 bill flies out of it onto the pavement.

Noticing this, a policeman stops her. "Ma'am, there are $20 bills falling out of that bag."

"Damn!" says the little old lady ... "I'd better go back and see if I can find some of them. Thanks for the warning!"

"Well, now, not so fast," says the cop. "How did you get all that money? Did you steal it?"

"Oh, no," says the little old lady. "You see, my back yard backs up to the parking lot of the football stadium. Each time there's a game, a lot of fans c ome and pee in the bushes, right into my flower beds! So, I go and stand behind the bushes with a big hedge clipper, and each time someone sticks his thingie through the bushes, I yell:

"'$20 or off it comes!'"

"Hey, not a bad idea!" laughs the cop. "Good luck! By the way, what's in the other bag?"

Butterflies!

We found this poor butterfly. It didn't have enough energy to fly away, so we very carefully took some pictures of it. They are sooooo beautiful, and I got some good shots. These are some of the "family" shots I got. My one son who is seen pictured below holding snakes and lizards, would not touch the butterfly for some reason....so there are no shots of him. We let the butterfly go after we were finished....I hope it got to where it was supposed to go. Aren't they supposed to be flying to Mexico about now?

Oh my God! I could find a million more pictures like these. In my defense, the pink dress would have been my parents....I was too young to be buying my own clothes after all!
Mostly what strikes me about these pics are the hair. I guess everyone sees their hair first in old pictures and just wants to throw up! I'm one of them!! What was I thinking!!!! Especially me in the tube top! My hair looks flat, and my eyebrows needed......something!! I don't pluck my brows now, but they are not as bushy as they were back then. I guess I'm getting old or something! The clothes are the worst, but, I'm assuming they were in fashion then....I hope.

The kids, hubby and I know a woman who has a farm. All kinds of animals!! She has just about everything you can imagine. She lets us hold and pet a lot of the animals too. I know we're not half nekkid, but, I wanted to use these pics for HNT. I love to hold and pet as many animals as possible! The kids do too. All of the kids got to hold and/or pet a chameleons, lizards, tortoises, kangaroos, llamas, horses, 12 foot long snakes, pigs and many many more!!

I haven't taken a lot of pictures this summer. This pic was taken by hubby. We were at the zoo with the kids. I'm wearing his hat. We had a good time, especially at the splash pad where we all cooled down. I hope to take a lot more pictures this fall and winter. Once we all get back into a routine, I can concentrate on doing things without the kids. It will be a little strange with them back in school.....but I'm sure it won't take me long to get used to it....just in time for Christmas vacation!!! Did I say that? The "C" word???? OMG! I'm Back!

My Aunt Fran brought it to my attention that I hadn't updated my blog in a while. She is soooooo right!! I've been so busy with the kids this summer that I haven't even thought about my blog. Besides that, I've "found" Facebook, which is a lot of fun. I'll still do my blogs, but I have Facebook to do also.
We've been to the farm, the zoo, the park, bowling, movies, another farm, camp out, swimming, picnics, a birthday party, and all kinds of other stuff. It's been a fun summer. I can't believe it's almost over!!
Actually, I look forward to school starting. Not for the fact that the kids will be away at school during the day, I really do like having them around....we have fun together. I look forward to school starting just for the routine. I like not having a routine at the beginning of the summer, but by the end of the summer I really, really, REALLY look forward to having one again.
The kids need school anyway. They start getting bored by the end of summer. I've taken them everywhere I can think of that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I don't believe in places like Wonderland, that costs hundreds of dollars just to have a day of fun. Sorry guys. I'll do the CNE once a year, and that's it. Even taking them to the zoo cost close to a hundred dollars!! To me, that is a lot of money for a few hours!! Anyway, I'm rambling.
I hope to start posting on a regular basis again. I'll once again start telling my stories of stuff that is happening in my life. Too bad I'm not a real exciting person!!
Gotta go for now. I'll post again in the very near future.

dress, and began to take off her underwear. Suddenly I noticed that there

2. At the beginning of my shift I placed a stethoscope on an elderly and

slightly deaf female p atient's anterior chest wall. "Big breaths," I

instructed. "Yes, they used to be," replied the patient. Submitted by Dr.

3. One day I had to be the bearer of bad news when I told a wife that

her husband had died of a massive myocardial infarct. Not more than five

minutes later, I heard her reporting to the rest of the family that he had

4. During a patient's two week follow-up appointment with his

cardiologist, he informed me, his doctor, that he was having trouble with

surgery. When she was completely disrobed on the operating table, the staff

noticed that her pubic hair had been dyed green, and above it there was a

"I'm sorry. Was I tickling you?" She replied, "No doctor, but the song you

This weekend I get the exciting task of cleaning out my garage. I'm not looking forward to it at all. I can't even use weather as an excuse.....unless it is really really hot (which it won't be). I really have to get rid of all the baby furniture, boxes from a LONG time ago and other stuff that I won't use and never will use. EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - A Seattle man has been charged with a slew of crimes that involved an alleged shoplifting, assaults and a pet duck named Mr. Peepers. Snohomish County Deputy Prosecutor Paul Stern on Thursday charged Kenneth Blaine Quinlan, 35, with two counts of third-degree assault and one count each of vehicular assault and hit-and-run.

Authorities say that on March 23, Quinlan and his 39-year-old girlfriend drove to a Lynnwood shopping center, where he entered a Linens 'n Things outlet and she went into a Petco store, taking the duck with her.

Stern wrote in court papers that a security guard thought he saw Quinlan shoplift an iPod speaker system, and a scuffle ensued.

Police say the guard chased Quinlan to the Petco store, where Quinlan got the car keys from his girlfriend and tried to escape.

The man jumped into the driver's seat of the car as the woman walked out of the store with her duck. Not knowing what was going on, she tried to stop him from driving away and was knocked down by the open car door as it backed up. She dropped the duck.

A Petco employee saw what was happening and "ran to save Peepers from the front of the car" just as Quinlan drove forward, Stern wrote. The car ran over the woman, inflicting serious injuries including broken bones in her foot and ankle, he said.

Charging papers say Quinlan continued driving and didn't stop until his vehicle struck another car nearby.

The girlfriend and guard were not seriously hurt. Mr. Peepers was OK.

Quinlan was being held in the Snohomish County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. A convicted felon and former heroin addict, he told officers that he'd just received a dose of methadone at a Lynnwood clinic and had used cocaine a few days earlier, according to court papers.

Cellphone radiation may be killing bees

TORONTO (CP) -- A mysterious malady that is causing honeybees to disappear en masse from their hives in parts of North America and Europe may be linked to radiation from cellphones and other high-tech communications devices, a study by German researchers suggests.

While the theory has created a lot of buzz in the beekeeping world, apiarists say there could be any number of reasons why the bees are deserting their hives and presumably dying off in large numbers, including changing weather patterns and mite or other kinds of infestations.

What they do agree on is that whatever is causing the phenomenon, known as colony collapse disorder (CCD), it is playing havoc with the production of honey and other products from the hive -- and threatening the growing of fruit and vegetable crops, which depend on bees for pollination.

The small study, led by Prof. Jochen Kuhn of Landau University, suggests that radiation from widely used cellphones may mess up the bees' homing abilities by interfering with the neurological mechanisms that govern learning and memory. It also appears to disrupt the insects' ability to communicate with each other.

To conduct the study, Kuhn placed cellphone handsets near hives and observed that radiation in the frequency range of 900 to 1800 megahertz caused the bees to avoid their homes.

But Brent Halsall, president of the Ontario Beekeepers' Association, said there are a lot of notions about what's causing bee colonies to dissolve like honey in a hot cup of tea.

High-frequency electromagnetic radiation from cellphones could be a factor, he acknowledged, but so could many other influences.

"Everybody's got their own little pet theory, but it's really hard to say," Halsall said from his home just south of Ottawa, where he keeps about 200 hives. "The bottom line for us as beekeepers is the industry in Ontario is already under a lot of stress because the bulk wholesale price of honey is below the cost of production."

There are about 10,000 beekeepers in Canada, operating a total of 600,000 honeybee colonies, says the Canadian Honey Council on its website. The majority are commercially operated, with Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba producing 80 per cent of Canada's 154 million kilograms of honey annually.

It's been a tough winter for Ontario's 150 to 250 commercial apiarists, who have lost about 23,000 of their 76,000 hives. Those lost hives, which at full capacity in summer house about 60,000 bees apiece, represent the loss of about $5 million worth of the industrious insects, he said.

"I think weather might be one of the big factors this year," Halsall said. "We had a very warm winter until mid-January and then, bang, it got cold."

From what he's observed so far in his hives, Halsall believes he's lost about half of his bees.

In some of his colonies, eggs had been laid and it appeared adult bees had been trying to keep the new brood alive in the face of the sudden drop in temperature. "There was honey inches away, but they probably starved to death as they tried to protect the brood."

Still, he thinks that whatever the causes of honeybee deaths in Ontario, and likely in the rest of Canada, they are different from those decimating hives in the United States.

In at least 24 states, bees have been dying in droves, with some commercial apiarists reporting huge losses, the American Beekeeping Federation reports on its website. "One lost 11,000 of his 13,000 colonies; another 700 of 900, another 2,500 of 3,500, another virtually all of his 10,000."

U.S. beekeepers estimate that more than one-quarter of their 2.4 billion colonies have been affected by CCD.

The American bee population had already been under threat in recent years from the varroa mite, a tiny parasite that devastated many keepers' hives and destroyed most wild honey bee populations.

While the varroa mite is also a problem in Canada, treatments to rid it from hives differ here compared with south of the border, and Halsall said his hives were virtually mite-free by the time winter arrived. Still, he and some other keepers have had huge losses in their hives.

"The bottom line is: We've got a problem in Ontario. There's a lot less bees than we used to have and we don't know why."

"It could be many different factors that are causing the bees to die or all of them together are enough to cause the problem and we just have the right set of wrong circumstances coming together."

It's a sad sad day. As you probably have already heard, the Toronto Maple Leafs are out of the playoffs. According to my husband, they wouldn't have lasted long anyway....2 or 3 games.
I really wanted them to at least last half of the playoffs. Oh well. On to bigger and better things.

I'm feeling better now that March break is over....however, now the school staff is on strike...not the teachers, but everyone else. This affects my family....one of my children can't go to school. So, my life hasn't returned to our version of normal just yet. I really can't complain though, the weather has been wonderful.....I can smell Spring in the air!!!

Even though we don't know the date of his birth, most scholars believe the year was 385 AD and the year of his death was 461 AD.St. Patrick was born in Wales, studied religion to become a priest and then went to Ireland to teach the people about God. There are many wonderful stories about St. Patrick, some true and some not true. The most famous legend is that he drove the snakes out of Ireland. This did not happen but the Irish will tell you that you cannot find a snake throughout the whole country of Ireland.

I've been at home all week with my 3 kids. I love them dearly, and, usually I love to spend as much time with them as possible. However, a whole week with not the greatest weather......results in my taking a lot of Tylenol. If only they'd stop this love/hate stuff!

This is my daughter 2 years ago, up at the farm. I've run out of pictures of me for HNT, so I thought....why not? She's an active one, keeping everyone on their toes...24/7. She's a lot of fun though. Her brothers have different opinions. They all have a love hate relationship. One minute they are hugging and playing...the next they are trying to kill each other!!

An Oldie But Goodie.....

A middle aged woman had a heart attack and was taken to the

hospital. While on the operating table she had a near death
experience.

a facelift, liposuction, and a tummy tuck. She even had someone

crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance.
Arriving in front of God, she demanded, "I thought you said I had
another 40 years? Why didn't you pull me from out of the path of the

This is my smile, now that I'm feeling better!! I can't believe how long I wasn't feeling well. I know a lot of people have been hit with the same thing. It's not like you have to stay in bed the whole time, but, you really get sick of being sick. I'd say from start to finish it lasted a month....and I'm pretty healthy!!!
I'm not smiling about the big dump of snow we just recently got. All the kids were home yesterday, which I don't really mind, but I'm so happy they are going back today!

We have a dog. His name is Buster. He's a Border Terrier. You don't see many of them around unfortunately. This picture was taken last week by my son who was in Vancouver. I've been there before, but, I forgot just how beautiful it is. I don't think I'd want to live there though....if I wanted mountains and beautiful natural settings, I think I'd much rather move to Colorado. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be moving anywhere though....I'm stuck here in small city Ontario...but it's a "nice" kind of stuck to be. We have plenty of nature all around us where we are, and, if we really want to rough it, we are only 30 minutes away from the "real" outdoors. So, I'm happy.
I'm really glad my son is back. It was the first time he was soooo far away from me. It was his first plane ride and his first time out of the province. It was good for him, and, I guess, somewhat good for me....to let him go a little. I keep myself in a fantasy where all my kids stay with me forever. They can still get married and have kids of their own....just under one roof. Silly isn't it? They are forever away from even having serious relationships....but it's something I think about. I especially wonder about my 4 year old.....she is a handful.....can't imagine her dating!! She'd probably kick the shit out of any guy that got near her. She doesn't take any crap from anyone....good for her!
Anyway, the picture of the mountains has a calming effect on me. So, I may have to print it out and put it on the wall in front of my desk.....for those....uh.....stressful days.

I haven't done the "da Count" in a little while. I have a good reason to do it today.
As you can see from my previous post, the blogger community lost a friend recently.
These types of things always bring about a great appreciation for the people in our lives. I've done posts of my kids, my family and my friends before. Today though, I want to say how blessed I am to have them all in my life. I love them all dearly, and wouldn't even want to think about my life without them. We've had some near misses in the last year, and, I personally have had to let my own children venture out into scary territory...for me and them...but mostly for me.
I've always realized how important everyone is...but sometimes I still take the most important people in my life for granted.
Life is too short. If you like someone, tell them. If you love someone, show them and tell them. It's not the things you say to someone....they'll only forget,it's the way that you make them feel that will be remembered.
I know there is a proper saying out there that I'm trying to quote...if I find it I'll post it.
Anyway, I guess that is my Da Count for today. I didn't want it to be too sappy,
I hope it wasn't.

Well, it's that time again....time for "Da Count"

I can come up with all kinds of things to be thankful
for, especially at this time of year.
I can be quite the sappy person......
I think I will write about being thankful for all this
rain we are getting. No, I haven't lost my mind!
I live in Canada....have for all my life. You'd think
that I would at the very least be used to the snow
and cold we get.
I CAN'T!! I don't want it, I don't need it, and although
I find the snow beautiful....I'd rather look at in it
pictures!!
So, even though it has rained, and rained, and
rained here....I am thankful that it is not SNOW.
But I know it's coming!! EH!!

Would You Like A Tray With That?

What? Are you stupid?
Since when do all these fast food and coffee outlets ask if you want
your drinks in a tray? I mean, o.k., you want to cut down on costs, I
guess I can understand that, but when I pay for my sandwich and drink
doesn't that cover the cost of the materials used?
I went to Burger King drive-thru the other day for my husband and 2 of
the 3 kids. I ordered sandwiches for everyone, fries, and,
because I REALLY like a lot to drink with my meals, ordered 2
KING size drinks, for hubby and me, plus 2 regular drinks for the kids.
The woman behind the window handed me 4 bags of food and then
proceeded to ask if I'd like a tray.
Hello?
"No" I said, "I like to balance the drinks on my head!"
Was that rude?
In what situation would someone who ordered 2 KING size drinks,
2 regular drinks and have 4 bags of food NOT need a tray?
Maybe I just don't get it.
And it's not just at Burger King. My husband and I have noticed this
trend at Tim Horton's among other places.
Next they'll be asking their customers if they'd like their sandwiches
wrapped....or their fries in the boxes.
C'mon people...think before you ask!!!
